Venezuela Suspends Deportation Flights from the U.S. Following Chevron’s Exit

The recent decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to revoke the license allowing oil company Chevron to operate in Venezuela has had significant repercussions on bilateral relations. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that repatriation flights for Venezuelan migrants from the United States have been suspended due to this measure.

Maduro described the revocation of Chevron’s license as an action that disrupts the established communication between both countries. The president expressed his willingness to facilitate the return of Venezuelan citizens in irregular situations in the United States but stated that this decision has interrupted plans for their repatriation.

Chevron’s license, which allowed the company to operate in Venezuela, was revoked by the U.S. Treasury Department, with a deadline of April 3 to cease its activities in the South American country.

This situation adds complexity to the relations between the U.S. and Venezuela, impacting not only the energy sector but also recent migration agreements. The suspension of deportation flights could have implications for managing Venezuelan migration and the domestic policies of both nations.

Meanwhile, thousands of Venezuelans continue to seek better opportunities outside their country, facing challenges in their journey to the United States and other destinations. The suspension of repatriation flights adds uncertainty to their situation and presents new challenges for authorities managing migration policies.
