Hundreds of Migrants Seek to Reach U.S. Southern Border Before Elections
Many in the group are driven by the fear that if former U.S. President Donald Trump wins the election, he will fulfill his promise to close the border to asylum seekers.
Hundreds of migrants from around a dozen countries have left the southern border of Mexico on foot, attempting to reach the U.S. border.

Some group members said they hoped to reach the U.S. border before the November elections because they fear that if Donald Trump wins, he will fulfill his promise to close the border to asylum seekers.
“We run the risk of having our permits (to cross the border) blocked,” said Miguel Salazar, a migrant from El Salvador. He fears that a new Trump administration will stop granting appointments to migrants through CBP One, an app used by asylum seekers to legally enter the United States by securing appointments at U.S. border crossings where they present their cases to officials.
The app only works once migrants reach Mexico City or the northern states of Mexico.
