Many Americans believe that immigrants contribute to the economy, but concerns persist. Americans are more concerned than they were a few years ago about migrants arriving illegally committing crimes in the country, a change largely driven by increased concern among Republicans, while Democrats continue to see a wide range of benefits from immigration, according to a new survey.
The survey conducted by The Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research revealed that a considerable percentage of American adults believe that immigrants contribute to the country’s economic growth and make significant contributions to US culture. But when it comes to individuals who entered the country through illegal channels, they see fewer benefits than in the past and more significant risks.

About 4 in 10 Americans point out that when immigrants enter the country legally, it is very beneficial for companies to have the expertise of qualified workers in fields such as science and technology. A similar percentage, 38%, also notes that they bring significant benefit by enriching American culture and values.
Congress has just approved funds to hire about 2,000 more Border Patrol agents, but there has been no significant push to add more judges so far this year. Many representatives from both parties said that decisions on granting asylum are delayed, which means that migrants stay in the country for years awaiting resolution, but no consensus has been reached to address the issue.
