United States Revokes Permits for Migrants Who Entered with CBP One and Orders Immediate Departure
Thousands of migrants who legally entered the United States during President Joe Biden’s administration using the CBP One app are now receiving notifications from the current government to leave the country immediately. This measure represents a drastic shift in immigration policy under President Donald Trump’s administration.
What Is CBP One and How Did It Work?
CBP One was a mobile application originally launched in 2020 and expanded during the Biden administration. It allowed migrants to schedule appointments to request asylum in the U.S. in a safe and organized manner. Through this platform, approximately 900,000 people were able to enter the country via the southern border, receiving a conditional permit that allowed them to live and work legally for about two years.

What Is Happening Now?
The current government has begun revoking those conditional permits. Many migrants are receiving emails with direct messages such as: “It’s time for you to leave the U.S.” Those who fail to comply with the removal order may face court proceedings, civil penalties, and other legal actions from immigration authorities.
Additionally, any benefits derived from their previous permit, such as work authorization, have also been canceled.
App Changes: From CBP One to CBP Home
In March, the app was renamed CBP Home and now serves a new purpose: facilitating self-deportations. Users must declare whether they have the financial means to return to their home country and whether they have a valid passport. This update is part of a broader strategy to implement a national registry of undocumented migrants over the age of 14, which requires personal and biometric information.
Exceptions and Context
The new measures do not apply to certain asylum programs, such as those for Ukrainian and Afghan citizens. However, migrants from countries like Mexico, Honduras, and El Salvador have received notices for immediate departure.
The Department of Homeland Security argues that these actions are intended to strengthen border security and correct what it considers to be a misuse of the permit system during the previous administration.
Implications and Challenges
Although the exact number of people affected has not been disclosed, experts warn that implementing these new policies may pose significant logistical and humanitarian challenges. Migrant rights organizations have also expressed concern about the consequences of canceling permits previously granted to individuals who followed already established legal procedures.
