Federal judge temporarily blocks the end of the Family Reunification Program (FRP)
A federal judge suspended for 14 days the termination of the family reunification program (FRP) for several Latin American countries.
A U.S. federal judge temporarily blocked the government’s decision to end the humanitarian Family Reunification Parole (FRP) program for nationals of Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, and Honduras. The court order, issued as an emergency measure, imposes a 14-day temporary restraining order against the actions previously announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), finding that the affected migrants demonstrated a risk of irreparable harm if the program were canceled immediately.

The judicial decision follows DHS’s announcement to terminate the FRP program, which would have forced thousands of beneficiaries to leave the United States by mid-January in the absence of another legal basis to remain in the country. Although the government argued that the program was misused and lacked sufficient vetting, the judge ordered DHS to submit administrative documentation and formally defend its position while the legal analysis of the case continues. The FRP, implemented during the previous administration, has allowed thousands of families to reunite legally while awaiting the resolution of their immigration processes.
