DHS Releases List of Sanctuary Cities Not Complying with Immigration Law
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has recently published an official list of so-called sanctuary jurisdictions, in compliance with a new Executive Order signed by President Donald J. Trump on April 28, 2025. This action is part of a federal effort to strengthen the enforcement of immigration laws across the country.

According to the DHS statement, these jurisdictions—which include cities, counties, and states—are actively obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration law by refusing to cooperate with immigration authorities in the detention and transfer of undocumented individuals, including those with criminal records.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, along with Attorney General Pam Bondi, have been appointed to identify and publicly release the list of these jurisdictions. The goal, according to DHS, is to increase transparency and demand that these entities review and revise their policies to align with federal legal frameworks.
In official statements, Secretary Noem asserted that these local policies “endanger law enforcement and American citizens.” She also emphasized that federal authorities remain committed to prioritizing public safety.
As part of the process, the listed jurisdictions will receive formal notification informing them of their status and of the potential legal violations they may be committing. DHS urges these authorities to immediately change their policies in order to fully comply with immigration laws and avoid further legal consequences.
This measure strengthens a federal strategy aimed at centralizing immigration enforcement and promoting closer cooperation between different levels of government in matters of security and law enforcement.
