DHS Ends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Cameroon

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has officially announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Cameroon, a decision published in the Federal Register on June 3, 2025.

This measure means that the current TPS designation for nationals of Cameroon will come to an end on August 4, 2025—60 days after the official publication. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem made the decision following a comprehensive assessment of conditions in the African nation, in collaboration with interagency partners, concluding that Cameroon no longer meets the legal criteria necessary to maintain TPS designation.

What Does This Mean for TPS Beneficiaries?

Cameroonian nationals currently protected under TPS should prepare for the end of their temporary stay authorization in the U.S. Once the TPS expires, affected individuals may report their voluntary departure using the CBP One app, an official government tool for managing certain immigration processes.

It is important to note that this termination does not imply immediate removal actions, but it does require beneficiaries to take steps to regularize their immigration status or explore available legal alternatives.
