White House issues executive order to strengthen border control and immigration policy
The White House issued the executive order Securing Our Borders, which strengthens border control, eliminates practices such as “catch and release,” adjusts parole policies, and resumes the Migrant Protection Protocols. The measure instructs federal agencies such as DHS and DOJ to apply existing immigration law more rigorously, prioritizing security, detention, and removal in accordance with the legal framework.
On January 20, 2025, the White House issued the executive order titled “Securing Our Borders,” through which the Federal Government establishes a series of directives to strengthen border control and the enforcement of existing immigration laws in the United States.

The order instructs agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of Defense (DOD) to use all available legal authorities to prevent irregular entry into the country, prioritize the detention of individuals who violate immigration laws, and carry out removal processes more expeditiously. Among the most relevant changes are the elimination of the practice known as catch and release, the resumption of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), and adjustments to parole policies, including the elimination of the use of the CBP One application as a mechanism to facilitate entry into the country.
The order also contemplates the construction and reinforcement of physical barriers along the southern border, additional deployment of personnel, increased identity and biometric checks, and a priority focus on the prosecution of crimes related to human trafficking and smuggling. These measures are part of a broader federal strategy aimed at national security, the integrity of the immigration system, and the uniform enforcement of the law.
