United States Records Historic Border Security Numbers in June 2025

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that during the month of June 2025, the United States reached record-breaking figures in border security, marking the lowest number of encounters and apprehensions ever recorded nationwide. This result represents a new operational milestone under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Historic lows in encounters and apprehensions

According to preliminary figures, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported a total of 25,243 encounters nationwide in June, representing a 12% decrease compared to the previous record set in February 2025 and an 89% drop compared to the monthly average from 2021 to 2024.

Regarding apprehensions by the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), a total of 8,039 cases were reported nationwide, surpassing the record set in March of the same year. Along the southwest border, apprehensions fell to 6,070, reflecting a 15% reduction compared to March.

One of the most notable data points came on June 28, when only 137 apprehensions were recorded across the entire southwest border—the lowest single-day number in the past 25 years.

Reduction in gotaways and zero releases

Another significant indicator was a 90% drop in “gotaways”—individuals who cross the border without being apprehended—compared to June 2024. Additionally, for the second consecutive month, the Border Patrol reported zero releases under a policy aimed at eliminating “catch and release” practices.

    Statements from DHS

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated that these results reflect the strengthening of border operations and institutional support for Border Patrol agents. “The numbers don’t lie. Under President Trump’s leadership, DHS and CBP have set records and achieved the safest border in U.S. history,” she affirmed.

According to the official statement, the message internationally is clear: the border is closed to those who break immigration laws.

    Conclusion

The figures recorded in June 2025 place the U.S. border security system at its safest level in decades. With a significant decrease in encounters, apprehensions, and gotaways, federal authorities reinforce their commitment to maintaining stricter and more efficient immigration control. The numbers presented offer an up-to-date snapshot of border dynamics and their operational outcomes.
