National Guard Deployed in Los Angeles Following Protests Over Immigration Raids
Los Angeles, June 2025 — The U.S. federal government has deployed National Guard troops to the city of Los Angeles, California, in response to a wave of protests sparked by recent immigration enforcement operations conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The troop mobilization was authorized by the White House through an executive order that allows the deployment of military personnel without requiring approval from the state’s governor. The measure was implemented after disturbances were reported during demonstrations in various parts of the city, mainly near federal facilities.

Context of the Protests
The demonstrations began peacefully as a reaction to the ICE raids carried out throughout the week. However, some of the gatherings escalated into road blockades, confrontations with authorities, and damage to public property. This prompted the federal government to activate additional security protocols.
So far, approximately 4,000 National Guard members have been deployed, with additional support from marines who remain on high alert. The forces have been concentrated around securing federal buildings and assisting local authorities with public safety duties.
State and Federal Responses
California Governor Gavin Newsom voiced his opposition to the deployment and filed a legal request to halt the federal operation. However, a federal judge temporarily denied the request, allowing the troops to remain in the city.
At the local level, municipal officials have expressed concern about the military presence in residential neighborhoods, while federal representatives have stated that the objective is to maintain public order and ensure the safety of federal personnel and the general public.
Upcoming Events
Protests are expected to continue in the coming days, particularly during the nationwide “No Kings Day” demonstrations scheduled for the weekend in several cities across the country, including Washington, D.C.
Local and federal authorities remain in ongoing communication to monitor the situation and determine next steps regarding public safety measures.
