United States Upgrades SAVE Database to Verify Immigration Status

On April 22, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in collaboration with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced a comprehensive update to the SAVE system (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements). This system, used by government agencies to verify the immigration status of non-citizens, has been optimized to offer greater accuracy, accessibility, and efficiency.

With the implementation of this modernization, the SAVE system is being solidified as a single, reliable national source for verifying the legal status of foreign nationals in the United States. Among the most significant changes are the elimination of search fees, the integration of criminal records and immigration timelines, and a new, user-friendly interface for authorized personnel.

In addition, the system will now feature automatic updates of immigration status and will allow federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal agencies to perform large-scale verifications more quickly and accurately. This measure aims to strengthen administrative processes, prevent the misuse of taxpayer-funded benefits, and reinforce control mechanisms for processes such as voter registration.

The DHS has indicated that it will continue to update stakeholders on the progress of the SAVE Optimization Plan in the coming months.

This modernization effort addresses the growing need for more efficient technological tools in immigration management and fraud prevention, especially at a time when accurate verification of legal status has become a top priority for government agencies.
