The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced a modification in the extension and redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem partially revoked the previous notice from July 1, 2024, reducing the protection period from 18 months to 12 months. With this decision, TPS for Haitian nationals will remain in effect until August 3, 2025.

Key Changes in TPS for Haiti

    • Reduced duration: The TPS extension has been adjusted from 18 months to 12 months, ending on August 3, 2025.
    • Modified registration period: New applicants qualifying under the redesignation have until August 3, 2025, to submit their application.

This change could impact thousands of Haitians who rely on this status to live and work legally in the United States. TPS beneficiaries and applicants are advised to consult the Federal Register notice and the official U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) pages for detailed information on updated requirements and procedures.

    Recommendations for Applicants

    • Check the requirements and deadlines on the official USCIS website.
    • Stay informed about potential updates or additional changes.
    • Consult an immigration attorney to ensure compliance with the requirements and avoid legal issues.

For more information, access the full notice in the Federal Register or visit the USCIS website.
