Donald Trump to Appoint Tom Homan as ‘Border Czar’ in New Administration
The President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced the appointment of Tom Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as the head of border security in his upcoming administration. This role, informally dubbed “Border Czar,” will focus on overseeing and managing security across all U.S. borders, including the southern border, the northern border, and maritime and aerial security zones.

Who is Tom Homan?
Tom Homan has previous experience in the Trump administration, having served as the acting director of ICE during Trump’s first term. His tenure involved the enforcement of immigration laws and border control. In this new position, Homan will be responsible for implementing Trump’s immigration policies, as Trump has made combating illegal immigration a central theme of his campaign.
In addition to this appointment, Homan is also being considered for the role of Secretary of Homeland Security. During the campaign, Trump praised Homan for his focus on immigration control and his ability to enforce security policies.
Responsibilities and Focus of the ‘Border Czar’
As the head of border security, Homan will lead strategies for controlling and securing the nation’s borders—a role that does not require Senate confirmation. In a recent interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Homan explained that immigration operations would be conducted with a “humane” approach. He stated that ICE would carry out these activities with thorough planning, including the identification and precise location of targets.
Homan emphasized that ICE would not use the military for these activities but would rely on its own agents, who are experienced and trained to handle such situations.
Expectations and Plans for 2025
During the National Conservative Conference in Washington earlier this year, Homan expressed his commitment to implementing a broad and effective immigration control strategy. He stated that the incoming administration would prioritize national security threats and that all individuals in the country illegally would be subject to immigration laws.
Homan predicted that, under Trump’s leadership, one of the largest deportation operations in the country’s history would take place. According to his statements, the administration would work within a framework of respect for human rights, but with a firm stance on illegal immigration.
The Context of Trump’s Immigration Policy
Border control and reducing illegal immigration have been key themes in Trump’s campaign and his plans for the next term. During his previous administration, various policies were implemented in this direction, and Homan’s appointment is expected to strengthen this strategy in the coming years.
Homan’s nomination as “Border Czar” represents a significant step toward fulfilling the new administration’s immigration policy objectives, and his experience with ICE will be a crucial factor in the development of these initiatives.
